The Story of Stuff is an American film running for twenty minutes that provides a cheerful analysis on the consumption patterns of the American people resulting in large amounts of waste. The movie released in the year 2007 uses thick lined depictions of the Earth, a house, and a factory on its narration of the adverse effects of waste. The three scene locations portray the human consumption cycle. Persons who wish to see the movie should expect to see scenes of dark factory smoke, several crossbones and skulls as well as unhealthy people. The gruesome scenes represent the polluting chemicals coming from our factories that float around in the atmosphere. The movie converses on environment education using the American lifestyle as basis of argument. The film is a piece of art that shows how human habits and lifestyles result in environmental degradation and global warming.

The argument on the opposite side of the story of stuff is on the rampant consumerism natures of the American people that have resulted in negative implications on our environment and on the human culture as a whole (Leonard and Conrad 22). Human desire for improved products has led to the development of a certain way of life that is marked with high levels of convenience and standards. This culture though does not show to the society how it came to be. Hidden implementation details do not justify the result of the American lifestyle. The film is composed of cartoons and an energetic flow of information given the presentation techniques providing a good educational tool for teachers and students. This can also be seen as an opposite argument in the film. The author and creator of the film converse on new teaching techniques in the use of short film as opposed to the traditional writing materials.

I think the movie provides an accurate depiction of what American consumerism has done to our environment. At a personal level, look or reflect on your buying behaviors. Through the film, everybody gains a comprehension on the role they are supposed to play in environmental conservation process by consuming less.
